Rice: US, Israel as one on Iran

2012-09-16 19:06

Washington - America's ambassador to the United Nations says there's "no daylight" between the United States and Israel when it comes to stopping Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. But Susan Rice also says US-Israeli intelligence indicates that the two nations have "considerable time" before that happens.

Rice was responding to a steady drumbeat of warnings in recent days by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Iran is dangerously close to acquiring an atomic weapon.

Rice tells CNN's State of the Union that economic sanctions are working.

Tehran insists its programme is peaceful.

Rice says President Barack Obama has been clear that it stands with Israel and "will do what it takes" to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. But, she adds, "we are not at that stage yet."

The catastrophe that will be created by striking Iran without a nuke,at this point wud be worse then living with a nuclear armed Iran. This wil be WW111.

      fred.fraser.12 - 2012-09-17 15:33

The IAEA, the same agency that tried to dissuade the US from invading Iraq, stated just last week there were clear signs the Iranian regime was moving towards developing nuclear weapons.

      fort.horseman.7 - 2012-09-17 15:54

@fred.the Iranians have enuf in their weapons arsenal to cause enuf damage as it is.They have already got a destructive retaliatory plan as it is that wil cause a major disaster to the region, not to mention the rippling effect worldwide.Just take into consideration their intent to close Straits of Homuz, where 40% of world oil supply runs through.11000 missiles fired in the 1st few minutes of attack, targeting 42 US Bases in the region.Close ties with N Korea,Russia and China. Nuke or not it wil b disasterous .

      fort.horseman.7 - 2012-09-17 16:06

And also take note of Irans strategic ties with nuclear armed India,Pakistan,Russia,China, then Syria,Hizbullah,in no ways will an attack be confined to a claimed easy aerial bombardment thatl be over in a few minutes.

      fred.fraser.12 - 2012-09-17 16:34

You know what's really interesting: twenty years from now the US will import zero oil from the Middle East. Zero.

  • sycomachinery - 2012-09-16 20:50

I can't understand why Iran has no nuclear weapons yet, they have good engineers and scientists, in SA we built it with almost no help from outside and very few people knew about it, what is wrong with Iran, with all that oil money available and they can't even produce one weapon of mass destruction, pathetic if your asking me.

      gerhard.kress.3 - 2012-09-16 21:01

They also could not defeat Iraq in 8 years. Their armed forces are mediocre in many ways.

      whites.mustunite - 2012-09-16 21:07

They can't even build their own cars.

      Madhi - 2012-09-16 21:42

Gerhard should tell the truth and say the US could not defeat Iran through an Iraqi proxy, now they might try with Israel. True US will win the war but the ME will be in ashes and not even Israel will survive that.

      fred.fraser.12 - 2012-09-16 23:04

Madhi, Saddam Hussein invaded Iran. The US did not stop him. That does not mean that Saddam Hussein was "a US proxy".

  • bbooyse - 2012-09-16 22:35

US Ambassador Susan Rice says there is \\considerable time\\ and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu says that \\Iran is dangerously close to acquiring an atomic weapon\\ -- which one is it?

      fred.fraser.12 - 2012-09-16 23:05

I would go with the US sense of timing on this. I think it's more accurate. Israel is literally looking down the barrel of a gun. The Amygdala Gland, with its instinctive fight-or-flight protection mechanism, can distort time.

      fred.fraser.12 - 2012-09-17 07:15

I love what you've said Fawzia. Thank you. Makes such good sense.

      fred.fraser.12 - 2012-09-17 07:19

One thing Fawzia: there are no more human-animals on the planet. All human beings have moved beyond that evolutionary point now.

      jaba.kov - 2012-09-17 09:50

I agree 100% fawzia...and admire your honesty. However fawzia - you call yourself a "free" old women - on a personal level, do you think you would have the freedom to say and write what you just have in Iran?

      Fidel - 2012-09-17 10:06

Bearing in mind that collective suicidal narratives such as Samson and Masada are so precious within the Zionist and Israeli discourses, we should stay on high alert. Sadly, turning our planet into dust is fully consistent with the Israeli and Zionist mission.

      Larry - 2012-09-17 10:54

      Oh what crap Fidel.

      Fidel - 2012-09-17 11:09

It's the kind of crap that is spewed daily by Zionist sympathisers that the Iranians are suicidal maniacs, or is it Mad Mullahs.

      fred.fraser.12 - 2012-09-17 15:37

Fidel spews crap like Nelson Mandela is a phony, a lackey of the West, a modern-day Uncle Tom. His words in the US/Mandela story several weeks ago. How does one take anything seriously from a mind that has chosen to believe something like that.

  • Rashida Patel - 2012-09-17 06:50

Here we go again. More war talk.!!! No wonder arabs fed up with land invasions ,mayhem and murder, and stealing of their resources by these american terrorists

      fred.fraser.12 - 2012-09-17 07:18

Here we go again, Rashida playing the pseudo-victim and not really understanding what's going on. The saddest part is she's encouraging her own destruction at the hands of ultra-chauvinistic regimes. She almost wants her own stoning. How does one make sense of this?

      bose.knows.7 - 2012-09-17 11:38

      fred.fraser.12 - 2012-09-17 15:39

Ziyaad, YOU"RE causing trouble for yourself and your own people. Again, HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS Of innocent Muslims are literally being butchered and maimed by the Jihadists and unelected dictators in your midsts. Do you say and do ANYTHING about this? Nothing. Instead you spew absolute nonsense post after post.

      ziyaad.adams - 2012-09-17 17:57

@fred.fraser - wtf are you on about, I hardly ever post on this site?? You need to calm down and use some logic bud, all you do is personally insult people without any basis of factuality whatsoever. You never stick to the topic at hand, simply spew your hatred for anything Islamic/Muslim whether its factual or not. Doesn't exactly make you a master debater!

  • fort.horseman.7 - 2012-09-17 16:18
