Rivals 'will close ranks to fight Obama'

2012-01-07 08:45

Tilton - Mitt Romney predicted on Friday that he and his rivals for the Republican presidential nomination will ultimately close ranks to ensure that Barack Obama is turned out of the White House.

"We'll put our egos and bruised feelings aside and then come back and do what's the right thing for our nation," Romney, who leads the crowded field for his party's nod to take on Obama in November 06 elections, told supporters in New Hampshire.

"If I am not the nominee, I will be supporting our nominee, and working for him. I will work hard for our nominee," the former Massachusetts governor and millionaire venture capitalist said at a spaghetti dinner for 100 people.

Romney has been locked in a bitter battle for the nomination, but his vast campaign war chest and high-profile endorsements have fed his image as the candidate to beat.

"When it's all over, we ought to be able to hug and go to work to get one of us elected president of the United States," he said. "Because if there's a candidate who thinks this campaign is about them, they're wrong. This is a campaign about America."

Romney also warned his supporters not to be complacent in the face of his vast lead in the polls ahead of New Hampshire's first-in-the-nation nominating primary on January 10.

"We're in a real battle right now. I know some pollsters say I'm doing real well. Let me tell you those polls they can just disappear overnight," he said.

Republicans will need a few more generations to purge themselves of the memory of America's worst president ever. Meantime Obama is the right man for cleaning up the Republicans mess.

      Graziella - 2012-01-07 10:49

Obama has no values. The man is a cipher. He's there to say and do what he's told needs to be said and done. Don't look to him for principles or beliefs of any kind beyond the mere instrumentality of occupying office. For anyone seeking absolute proof of totalitarian corporatism's triumph over libertarian democracy search google for : "Ericksonian conversational hypnosis Obama" and have a read.

      Louise - 2012-01-07 13:00

The only possible candidate is RON PAUL. Not in anyone's pocket, suggesting change on foreign policy, ie pulling out of all non-declared wars, doing a full audit on the economy, too many REAL issues, and not trying to impress the rich....

      Juan - 2012-01-08 04:05

@Louise his policies are interesting, but he is not likely to be nominated. He's not fairing very well in the polls thus far

  • bielash - 2012-01-07 09:38

And so it has started, can't wait for this fight, can't say that it will be clean though - Good luck Obama, you are going to need it...

      Graziella - 2012-01-07 10:31

There's no fight to be had here. Amerikan democracy is nothing but a bought and paid for political system, corrupt to the core and becoming more evil as greed expands. A non caring society where the rich and wealthy tells everyone else how to live their lives for their own personal gain. Smoke and mirrors!

      Graziella - 2012-01-07 14:59

You know nothing about me except what you have assumed from my comments, so shoulnd't really make judgements based on your own prejudice.

  • Graziella - 2012-01-07 10:23

Obama sucks, and idiots like the hideous Romney should be sent out to pasture with the other wildebeasts.

      Graziella - 2012-01-07 11:23

You mean the system where power and influence are bought in billion dollar elections, where the president becomes an obedient servant of the corporate elite in exchange for the hollow trappings of authority, a system where the monied elites ensures that ordinary citizens have no chance at power. Political scientists understand that US electoral outcomes are determined by powerful monied interests that finance the political campaigns and that the bills Congress passes and the President signs are written by these interest groups to serve their narrow interests. Such conclusions are dismissed as cynicism and do not alter the mindset of simpletons like you. Are you going to fund my relocation?

      Graziella - 2012-01-07 13:30

Any intelligent fool can make things bigger and more complex... It takes a touch of genius - and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction. Albert Einstein As for your funding my relocation, I had my tongue firmly in my cheeck.

      Graziella - 2012-01-07 14:59

Your petty jibe is really rather pathetic.

      Arthur - 2012-01-07 18:12

Graziella This is an ideal forum is it not, for stringing together cliches, probably learned in a political science class at Fort Hare?

      Graziella - 2012-01-07 18:21

When I write a comment lasting two and a half lines it is important to have good letters and good words. With good words you can make strong sentences. I have good words.

      Shadho - 2012-01-07 19:57

HAHAH!! The American President is NOT elected by the public geezsus!!! He is elected to office by the Electoral College....hahaha!!! YOU ppl are dumber than dumb even that Yankie doodle dumbo that professes to be a USA ex pat....LOL!!!

      Linda - 2012-01-07 21:30

Frank, you are delusional. It is obvious that you have live in SA for 27 years. No one fears the police in the US? Hahahahaha!! Biggest joke I've ever heard.

  • Schalk - 2012-01-07 11:36

At least if Obama loses he can blame racism in America like his brothers in SA is doing...

      Graziella - 2012-01-07 11:39

Schalk,do you ALWAYS waste time from your life shouting off a bunch of bull that makes no sense at all? All you did was waste time from your life by writing that crap, and I wasted time from mine for reading it.

      Lephutsi - 2012-01-07 13:33

@ Schalk Obama is more intelligent than you. He will not blame racism if he looses the elections. He would not have won the last American election if he didn't get votes from White Americans (majority) You must give credit where it is due. I feel sorry for Racists like yourself because your minds are clouded with hatred and as a result you cannot think rationally. You behave like Malema. Shame on you!

      Graziella - 2012-01-07 15:01

You're commenting is condescending, and doesn't even address my comment in any tangible way. So, it was an excuse to vent your spleen. Away with you!

      Schalk - 2012-01-07 15:28

My, my, but some people are touchy. Graziella this is the first time I comment here on News24 so I'm not sure where your ALWAYS come from - probably some hyperactive immagination which forms part of your inferiority complex. And poor Lupupsi - everybody that says anything against Obama must automatically be racist - go join the p!ssup in Bloem and be happy.

Frank, Graziella hit the nail on the head. Many South Africans who left to live and work in the USA after 1994, are returning. One such man who arrived in America as a wealthy man, now lives in Pretoria with his in-laws. His family is still in the USA because his only real asset in the USA had been the very expensive house he built soon after having arrived there, but it now has NO value... you know what is going in the Real Estate business in the USA... Owners abandon classy residences and leave to wherever. He was hoping on selling his house to raise the money to bring his family back, but that possibility, as I explained,no longer exists. Fortunately. his father-in-law conceded to pay for their return, and he is prepared to put them up until they can afford to go on their own again. The person told me that although he earns far less than he did in the USA (he was international director for an American company and had been all over the world, earning money. At least he now has a job, however meager. In America, he says, there are NO jobs and many of my friends in the USA (most of whom are pining for home)confirms that. 27 yers' absence is a long time not having lived there. Sporadic visits to family do not count. A jounalist recently reported on this same forum about the almost clausterphobic sense of restriction he suffered while in the USA because of armies of policemen patroling the streets, losing the battle against crime because of the USA's imigration policy.

      Graziella - 2012-01-07 13:33

The US is beginning to resemble a medieval European feudal state, ruled by a handful of 'aristocrats' rich of the back of the toiling mass of 'serfs', in a violent and insecure realm where dissent is not tolerated. That sounds like hyperbole, but is it that far from the truth...? America has become a violent video game. Home of the Fearful and the Land of the Serfs.

      Graziella - 2012-01-07 15:10

Slavery and Empire, fortified with genocide, built on subterfuge, deception, propaganda, and greed; is 'The American Way of Life!' Make no mistake Frank, I am not intelligent, I am stupid and have the sense to know it. Unlike so many other idiots who believe they are intelligent.

      Graziella - 2012-01-07 16:30

Syria, on the African continent, I give up!

  • Dayaan - 2012-01-07 14:52

Republicans are the worst hypocrites and racists you can find. Romney is now claiming Ronald Reagan's mantel with almost all of Reagan's advisers backing him. Reagan nor the Republican party has ever apologized to South Africans for there support of the Apartheid regime. Republicans can not be trusted they are the worst of the war-mongers in the USA. If it wasn't for the fact that Reagan had to be vetoed by individual senators then sanctions would never have been applied and it would have taken longer for us to get rid of the Apartheid regime. Reagan actually apologized for having to sign the bill that enforced sanctions on the regime. So to all those supporters of the Republican party perhaps you want to start by apologizing for Apartheid and what it did to all South Africans.

      Schalk - 2012-01-07 15:32

Maybe Reagan saw through the lies of the ANC and he knew once they get into power they will destroy the country like they are doing. Everybody didn't believe all the liberal crap that was punted by the BBC and CNN.

      Graziella - 2012-01-07 18:55

Are you really that ignorant? The whole purpose of Apartheid was to enshrine white privilege. It was a racist system designed to keep the black population without the hope of advancement or education as a docile cheap labour force to support white privilege. Even though you still enjoyed the fruits of apartheid, you were well aware of your status as polecats of the world.

It is interesting how seldom the name 'Ron Paul' actually appears on News24, although he is a strong contender in the race. One thing that is beginning to irritate me more and more about Media 24 is their lack of balanced reporting and in giving us the complete picture..It riples through on all their news services and it is complimented by the SABC when it comes to broadcasting. It is always important to read the other newspapers as well as the overseas ones, and as far as the local ones are concerned, one often wonders if they were published on the same day.

      Graziella - 2012-01-07 15:32

Media corporations are always going to express the ideological viewpoints of their owners. The media don’t always feed us vacant pabulum out of a desire to keep us ignorant. The Anglo Saxon mass media acts in a manner virtually indistinguishable from propogandists. Duplicity, Hypocrisy & Lies are all we can expect from the Main Stream Media as they Mainly Sell Mendacity & Mind Subverting Memes.

      Schalk - 2012-01-07 15:58

Frank, I think she is smoking some of that tik they produce on the Flats. I think the stuff makes you believe you are more clever than what you really are...

      Graziella - 2012-01-07 16:37

Frank, you take me back to being 10 again when everyone ..dad ..my headmaster, were fascists. It gradually stopped but I can see some struggle with change! :) There is nothing in your comment that warrants a serious effort to respond. Have a nice day.

      Graziella - 2012-01-07 17:01

You really have a difficulty with comprehension!

"On election night, when the three major television networks announce the next president, the winner they announce is not chosen by the voters of the United States. He is the selection of the three networks themselves, through a company they own jointly with Associated Press and United Press International. That company is called News Election Service (NES). Its address is 212 Cortland Street, New York City. Its phone number is (212) 693- 6001. News Election Service provides “unofficial” vote tallies to its five owners in all presidential, congressional, and gubernatorial elections. NES is the only source Americans have to find out how they, as a people, voted. County and city election supervisors don’t come out with the official totals until weeks later. Those results are rarely reported in the national media. The US government does not tabulate a single vote. The government has granted NES a legal monopoly, exempt from antitrust laws, to count the votes privately." Vote Scam by Jonathan Vankin O good voter, unspeakable imbecile, poor dupe... —Octave Mirbeau, Voter’s Strike!

      Linda - 2012-01-07 21:28

This is a concept few South Africans understand. That is why candidates only campaign in the states with the most votes in the electoral college. By the time I go to vote (living on the west coast), the winner has already been officially declared.
