Russia opposes UK decision on Syria

2012-07-20 17:58

New York - Russia says it will veto a British resolution that would extend the 300-strong UN observer force in Syria for a final 30 days.

Russia supports a rival Pakistani resolution that would extend the mission for 45 days, with the possibility of further renewals.

The UN Security Council was scheduled to vote on the draft resolutions on Friday morning.

It is under pressure because the mandate for the unarmed observer force expires on Friday.

Pakistan called for consultations before the vote.

Russia's UN Ambassador Vitaly Churkin told reporters "we're going to vote against" the British draft.

Russia and China's vetoes on Thursday of a Western-backed UN resolution aimed at pressuring President Bashar Assad's government to end the escalating civil war left the future of the observer mission in limbo.

The UN's purpose in these type situations is to stop 'BOTH' side committing violence, and seek a political solution. The problem with the UK, France, and US is they appear to be content only if one side stops firing. Russia and China want both sides to be held accountable for any breaches in Kofi Annan's plan, but the west wants the terrorist to continue spreading terror without any censure from the UN. Russia and China should veto everything that the Nato warmongers endeavour.

More silly, childish fidel CRAP. You want to talk about Kofi Annan's 6 point plan; the one who Syria's terrorist regime, did not keep ONE promise !! You more than likely have not got the intelligence to understand why, but there were clear reasons, WHY this assad dog had to impliment this plan, BEFORE the oppostion had to !! But < I again don't think you can think clear< only anti Western CRAP !!!

The neo-Soviet Russian and Jihadist infested Palistani regimes, plus Fidel, are determining world human rights interventions, thanks to self-centered Obama who's more interested in being re-elected. .

Fidel once again you are trying to kill off the legitimate aspirations of the syrian people to personal freedom and democracy. Shame on you with the ANC history behind you.
