Dubai - A Dubai radio station has fired a talk show host for mocking religion and impersonating God in a morning show.
Abdullatif al-Sayegh, chief executive of Arab Media Group, which operates the Middle East franchise of Richard Branson's Virgin Radio brand, says South African host Revin John has been "asked to leave" for an offensive sketch on air on Monday.
Al-Sayegh said on Wednesday that John has apologised to Dubai for the programme in which he "recorded the voice of God and interviewed him in a humorous way".
Arab Media Group is a Dubai-based conglomerate that owns more than a dozen radio and TV stations, including MTV Arabia.
John could not immediately be reached for comment.
