Schoolkids kick, slap teacher

Kuala Lumpur - Two Malaysian high school students were accused of slapping one of their teachers and kicking her in the abdomen during an argument over an assignment, news report said on Friday.

Azhana Ibrahim, 27, who teaches physics in the school in the northern state of Perlis, had approached the two 14-year-old girls on Thursday after they allegedly handed in their long overdue assignments with a crude word scribbled on the back of the report.

A shouting match ensued and slaps were exchanged when the students turned violent and started kicking the teacher in her abdomen several times, police told the New Straits Times newspaper.

"She was shaken when she came into the teachers room for help," an instructor who accompanied Azhana when she lodged a police report was quoted as saying.

Declining to be identified, the teacher added that other students were also called in to lend their support to the two girls during the incident, which was recorded with a student's cellphone camera.

State Education Department head Mansor Lat confirmed the incident and said a report from the school was requested to assist in an investigation.
