Almaty - At least 25 people have died after two dams burst in southern Kazakhstan causing massive flooding, Almaty regional government spokesperson Ilyas Biyakhmetov told AFP on Friday.

"According to the latest confirmed information the number of dead stands at 25," he said.

Around 3 000 people have been forced from their homes, after rivers swollen by unusually heavy winter snowfalls and an early spring breached a dam in the Aksuisky district and washed away a second in the nearby Karatalsky district.
