Singapore - Both Iranian Siamese twins have died during the operation to separate the 29-year-old sisters.
Ladan Bijani died first on Tuesday, followed shortly afterwards by Laleh.
The official notice of the first twin's death said: "Raffles Hospital regrets to announce that Ladan Bijani passed away a few minutes ago," said a statement released by the hospital.
"As the separation was coming to a close, a lot of blood was lost. The twins were subsequently in a critical state.
"Doctors attempted to stabilise her, but her condition continued to deteriorate. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, Ladan Bijani passed away."
The statement said Laleh was in a critical condition.
"Doctors are still trying to stabilise her," the statement said.
Many babies joined at the head have been separated before, but the procedure for the 29-year-old women from Iran was the first time it had been performed on adults.
