Snowden: EU safe harbour ruling makes 'all safer'

Moscow - Edward Snowden, the US whistleblower behind the 2013 revelations of mass surveillance by Washington, has welcomed an EU high court ruling striking down a data sharing scheme with the United States.

"We are all safer as a result," Snowden writes on Twitter, adding, "Thank you Europe." He congratulated Austrian activist Max Schrems, who brought the case, noting: "You've changed the world for the better."

Although the court's decision cannot invalidate a US law allowing intelligence agents to access private data, the ruling "shows it does not comport with international law", Snowden says.
