Sydney - A man died in custody after being tasered and pepper-sprayed by police, Australian officials said on Monday.

According to ABC, officers used capsicum spray on Kevin Norris, aged 38, and electrocuted him with a taser after they were called to a McDonald's restaurant late on Sunday in Bowral, 100km south of Sydney.

Two officers were injured while trying to arrest Norris, who later collapsed and died in the police station, police were quoted as saying.

Police use of tasers has become controversial following several deaths in Australia.

Three Sydney policemen were cleared of assault charges last month over the 2012 taser death of 21-year-old Brazilian student Roberto Curti. The fourth officer will be sentenced later this year.
