Syria opposition fingers Iran

2012-06-02 10:01

Beirut - The opposition Syrian National Council (SNC) on Friday accused Iran of "interference in Syrian affairs" by providing Damascus with military aid, and called for an Arab League and UN probe.

"Despite the Syrian regime's crimes... the Iranian regime seems determined to provide it with full military, security, economic and political support," the SNC said in a statement.

"Iranian interference in Syrian affairs includes the training of pro-regime militias on the repression of protests," it said.

The SNC charged that Tehran was providing Damascus with surveillance technology and weapons, including explosives, machineguns, heavy artillery and tanks.

"Iran's Revolutionary Guard have taken part in security operations to persecute anti-regime dissidents," the statement added.

The opposition coalition demanded that the Arab League and the UN Security Council "investigate" Iran's involvement, adding that the Iranian regime was "complicit in trying to ignite a civil war in Syria".

The UN Security Council "must condemn and take the necessary steps, while preventing the illegal arrival of Iranian weapons and equipment to the Syrian regime", it said.

"Tehran has also pumped billions of dollars [to the Syrian regime] through banks in Lebanon and Iraq, in order to prevent the economy from collapsing," the SNC added.

The SNC also accused Iran of complicity in "the crimes committed by the [Syrian] regime", and of "denying the regime's responsibility for these crimes".

How about Bahrain, Qatar and Turkey, who've made it no secret that they are arming these terrorists. Iranian actions are rational, they are protecting their interests, like every other country who has an interest in Syria.

Iran is known as an exporter of terrorism, and fortunately they are not able to send an atom bomb to this assad criminal scumbag, because this psychopath would without any doubt, use it on his opposition. And for your info, any arms coming into the country, besides those from Russia and IRAN, go to the Free Syrian Army , made uo of 60 000 brave soldiers, who used to be in assad's terrorist army !!!!

Iran is an exporter of oil. Which happens to be cheap. You attack or sanction them you starve us by increasing food prices which are result of petrol price increases. The only thing that middle east wars have brought us is expensive fuel and more sorrow in that region.

Instead of coming out in support of Syrians literally being butchered by an unelected dictator, aided and abetted by another illegitimate regime that has stolen the government from its people, you support the killers and illegitimate regimes.

      fred.fraser.12 - 2012-06-02 19:56

Patrick, you openly support Russia and China's stance on Syria. So what are you saying exactly?

      Joseph - 2012-06-04 11:51

@AnthonyfromAfrica There you go again with your propaganda which you parade as the truth. The Zionist regime was busted for posing as CIA agents in order to recruit and train Iranian terrorists. The terrorists group is known as Jundallah. A poll was carried by a Qatar research group which found that more than 55% of the people of Syria support the incumbent regime. Its just a small group who are Al-qaeda terrorists who oppose the regime

Which country has Iran attacked ? Think of the petrol price before you get obssessed about Iran being wiped for some phantom terrorism excuse. I've telling you over and over again than this Syrian thing is just the road to Iran. This whole crazy idea that Muslims sectors can't live with one and Muslims can't live with Jews is BS here we are in SA. Jews we have them. Muslims we have them . Christians we have . If they can do it here they can do it over. The ruling elite just makes things harder because of their elite agenda.

You haven't learnt what's really going on in the Middle East yet, Luyolu, nor who the Iranian regime is, distinct from the Iranian people. The Iranian regime adjusts elections to hold onto power. It has therefore stolen the Iranian state, with its resources and military, from the Iranian people. It funds the Jihadist movement which has killed and maimed hundreds of thousands of innocent people in Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa and other parts of the world. It supports the stoning of women. It openly calls for the destruction of Israel, a sovereign nation. It denies the Holocaust, the single biggest attempt at human genocide in human history: six million Jewish people killed. It abuses the Palestinians by arming and inciting them to attack Israel almost daily to hold onto power. It is arming the unelected dictator of Syria who is butchering Syrians and their families who want nothing more than the right to vote for their leaders in free and fair elections. You are strengthening this illegitimate and oppressive regime with your beliefs, and in so doing you are complicit in the murder of Syrians and destruction of Syria.

The IAEA, which is the UN's nuclear monitoring authority, has specifically state the Iranian regime is hiding two nuclear facilities

      JohncarlosBiza - 2012-06-02 17:52

@Fred funn how you acknowledge the UN when convenient for you, but dare they say something about Israel..

      fred.fraser.12 - 2012-06-02 19:04

You're saying that I opposed the UN when it was rightly critical of Israel. As far as I am aware, I have not done that. Not to say that I would automatically agree with the UN on everything. That would be immature, wouldn't it.
