Taipei - Taiwan`s aviation authorities were analysing onboard flight data and cockpit voice recordings of a passenger aircraft that crashed last week, an official said on Sunday.

The 23 July fatal crash of turboprop TransAsia Airways ATR72 on Penghu Island killed 48 people. Ten survived.

"The recordings of the conversations on the CVR (cockpit voice recorder) are clear and we expect to obtain useful information from the two recorders," Aviation Safety Council executive director Wang Hsing-chung said.

Authorities will be working with investigators from the French aviation safety agency BEA, the France-based ATR Aircraft and Pratt & Whitney Canada - the manufacturer of the plane's engines.

Wang said the aircraft wreckage had been found in trees north of Xixi village, where it crashed and exploded after failing to land at the island's airport in heavy winds produced by Typhoon Matmo.
