Kabul - The Afghan Taliban condemned the execution of tribal elders by ISIS calling it "horrific" and "barbaric" in a statement released late on Tuesday.

The graphic video circulated on social media was supposedly released by ISIS affiliates in the eastern Aghan province of Nangarhar.

"A horrific video was released yesterday showing kidnappers who associate themselves with Daesh brutally martyring several white-bearded tribal elders and villagers with explosives in the Mohmand Dara area of Shinwar district," it said, referring to ISIS by its Arabic name.

The video shows the extremists burying explosives before leading 10 individuals to the spot and blowing them up.

The satement called the executions "un-Islamic," and said "no law can ever allow prisoners to be mistreated in such a manner."

The Taliban movement, which formally calls itself the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, has also been known to torture and execute prisoners, among other extra-judicial killings.

ISIS, which began in Syria and Iraq, has been recruiting disgruntled Taliban fighters in Afghanistan and Pakistan this year.

Afghan government officials have not commented on the latest incident or the video.

Many areas of Nangarhar have seen turf wars between the Taliban and ISIS affiliates in recent months.
