2012-09-16 08:54

Kabul - Six US fighter jets were destroyed and two significantly damaged when insurgents stormed a heavily fortified Afghan base where Britain's Prince Harry is deployed on Friday, a Nato spokesperson said.

Three coalition refuelling stations were also destroyed and six aircraft hangars damaged in the assault that caused unprecedented damage at Camp Bastion in southern Helmand province, one of the toughest battlegrounds of the war, the spokesperson said.

Ask the Russias ,nato will never win this so called war on terror

      douglas.reid.921 - 2012-09-16 09:30

Quite right. Russia went in for 3 months and after 10 years they were bankrupted by that attempt. The current war has cost a fortune and the enemy is still alive and strong . Nato should leave the middle east to their own devices and stop wasting money and blood. Afghanistan is not strstegic , only one of the biggest heroine producers in the world.

Rashida will India ever win the war against the naxalites who control one third of India? Nepal was overrun by maoist guerillas which are now the government there. Where do you stand?

  • sefako.mokgalaka - 2012-09-16 09:57

What is the US still doing in the middle east? I thought they were looking for Osama bin Laden.

  • imtiaz.osman.5 - 2012-09-16 10:43

War is created by western countries because they r the major manufactures of weapons. The find differences between two groups and the ignite the fire and watch them burn while they increase the bank balance for a few

      patrick.saunders123 - 2012-09-16 12:59

actuallt, intiaz, the biggest arms manufacturers are the chinese and the russians.

  • Fidel - 2012-09-16 10:53

This is beginning to resemble Vietnam all over again. Iraqis and Afghans don't want your "democracy"!

      dylan.sciarappa - 2012-09-16 11:33

Explain yourself Anthony? There are striking similarities between the two wars are there not. I personally think this is meant to be a sustained war as the only people benefiting is the military industrial compex

      dylan.sciarappa - 2012-09-16 11:56

Republicans democrats are both the same thing

      gerhard.kress.3 - 2012-09-16 15:52

Temper, temper. That is not very lady-like.

      AnthonyfromAfrica - 2012-09-16 21:47

Fidel, Not sure who or why my comment was deleted. But , let me just repeat myself; Anyone who compares the Vietman war, fought 50 years ago !! with Afghanistan and Iraq is IGNORANT, DUMB and STUPID, and has not a clue about International politics Ansd stop this silly childish rubbish, about 'context !! The ONLY 'context' YOU know, is SPEWING YOUR HATRED AND FILTH !!! Although the loony left would like to take 'exclusivity' on Afghanistan and Iraq, the majority of people in the West, including myself, have never been in favour of American politics in these two countries !!! And "dumb f#*k" , I doubt, with your body bloated with HATRED AND FILTH; you are even capable of 'that'

      Fidel - 2012-09-17 07:54

      Because it was daft!

  • jamesedmundbird - 2012-09-16 12:09

they can't even protect their own bases from the Taliban, let alone the local villages. It is identical to Vietnam.

  • michael.barns.1 - 2012-09-16 13:40

Typical useless reporting, there are no fighter jets at Camp Bastion..

      Shane Loxton - 2012-09-16 14:09

very true Michael, the reporting on 24 sucks, non factual and never check their reporting or spelling. the aircraft are choppers not jets, only choppers are at this base

      Shane Loxton - 2012-09-16 14:27

ooops sorry there are US harrier jump jets based there

      michael.barns.1 - 2012-09-16 15:20

nah all the jets are based 10min down the road at Kandahar AFB, Camp Bastion is just a FOB with the entire rotor wing division & V-22 Ospreys as well.

      Shane Loxton - 2012-09-16 15:52

dude those V22's make so much dust on vertical take offs and landings, one time we lost all visual of them landing at our FOB

  • douglas.reid.921 - 2012-09-16 14:43

The reality is that the west should get the hell out of the middle east. The muslims will kill each other in a quest for sectatial dominance. Sunnis kill kurds kill shiates and so on. As for the christians in lebanon, go to the west and be at peace. Then there's Israel and the jews and christians, they could find a home somewhere in the usa and take their skill talent and money away and leave the muslims to enjoy fighting each other.

      vierkleur.transvaal - 2012-09-16 15:35

Who are they really? 100 years ago, before the discovery of oil, they were nothing. They were small nomadic tribes. And in 50 years’ time, after the depletion of their oil resources, they will be nothing again!

      Gcodi Mahomed - 2012-09-16 16:09

@douglas,reid,you and many poopholes, were supporting USA and there terrorist organizations,in invading Afghanistan, now that your friends are getting killed, you have a change of heart i see

      Fidel - 2012-09-17 05:41

"Then there's Israel and the jews and christians, they could find a home somewhere in the usa" How about Arizona, it is semi desert, has a big wall of seperation, and brown people to shoot at. Israelis would be happy there!

  • derek.bredenkamp.3 - 2012-09-16 15:26

Refreshing to hear some good news for a change. Fewer weapons of mass destruction can only be a good thing.

  • nicholas.breakey - 2012-09-16 22:51

Nato should bomb those countries in the mid east which are a threat to keep them in a state of tecnological backwardness so the threat remains contained then the use of ground troops become less necessary.
