Thief blames crime on identity disorder

Sydney - An Australian woman who stole nearly AUS$8m ($8m) from her employer was jailed for eight years Tuesday after a Melbourne court rejected her claim of multiple personalities.

Lawyers for Wendy Hope Jobson, 50, argued that she suffered from dissociative identity disorder and had at least 10 personalities, including one named Reggie who was the real culprit.

Justice Phillip Priest noted that the fraud encompassed more than 1 000 separate transactions over 16 years, and said Jobson was fully aware of what she was doing.

"Moreover, your claim that you didn't know what you were doing doesn't sit well with your actions in deliberately covering up your thefts through false accounting," he was quoted as saying by national news agency AAP.
