Tokyo - A powerful typhoon hit Japan's southwestern Kochi prefecture on Monday morning after hitting Okinawa over the weekend. Three people have died and one person is missing, authorities said.
Typhoon Dianmu, the season's sixth, hit the prefecture at around 09:30.
Because of the typhoon's power, which caused strong winds and rain, some air, land and sea transport services in western and southern Japan have been disrupted. Among the dead were two college students whose bodies were found on Sunday after high waves swept the pair away from a beach in central Shizuoka prefecture.
Another man died on Saturday while windsurfing in Okinawa. A company employee has also been missing since Sunday from a beach in western Wakayama.
