UK diplomat commits suicide in Romania

Bucharest - A British diplomat has fallen to his death from the top floor of a Romanian hotel, in what media said on Friday was an apparent suicide.

Britain's Foreign Office confirmed the man was a member of the diplomatic staff at its embassy in Romania but did not provide further details citing privacy.

Romanian media reported the death was a suicide.

According to local police, the 46-year-old plummeted from the highest floor of a hotel in the northern city of Baia Mare after leaving a farewell note.

An investigation has been opened.
