US: Syrian army stable despite defections

2012-06-26 22:09

Washington - US officials say Syria's military remains loyal despite recent high-profile defections, while the opposition remains fragmented and unable to attack as a unified force, indicating a long, protracted conflict to come.

The Syrian regime is maintaining troop loyalty by keeping paychecks coming even as food and fuel run out for the rest of the country, according to US intelligence officials who briefed reporters on the Syrian conflict on Tuesday.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to provide the sensitive information.

The regime has also used militias to attack Sunni neighbourhoods instead of involving the mostly Sunni army, they said.

Officials say the opposition has learned effective guerrilla-like tactics, but is still too disorganised to hold territory, which will likely produce a continuing "seesaw" battle between the two sides.

It is totally amazing how some continue to distract, with some childish crap, from whats really happening in Syria. A nation under siege by assad terrorists. Where women and children live 24/7 under fear, of being slaugthered by these assad dogs. But what keeps the Syrians going, is that they know, that every day, is one day closer to get rid of this assad family. How is your Arizona project going, you still abusing the US hospitality ??

      rude.awakning - 2012-06-27 06:25

@anthony. Abuse hospitality naah! I'm doing the same thing you doing , only I am NOT '' throwing stones at the American embassy'' as you said you did! You probably won't see a difference, but there really is !!! And when you go to Disneyland, you might see your hero there; Goofey, aka assad !!

Thanks i will look for ''assad' when in Disneyland because being on the endangered species list will make him a rare sight! I am hoping to see you and the rest of the circus clowns there too.
