US issues travel alert after Iran plot

2011-10-12 07:50

Washington - The US state department issued a worldwide travel alert for US citizens late on Tuesday, warning of the potential for anti-US action, after the US accused Iran of backing a plot to kill Saudi Arabia's ambassador to Washington.

"The US government assesses that this Iranian-backed plan to assassinate the Saudi ambassador may indicate a more aggressive focus by the Iranian government on terrorist activity against diplomats from certain countries, to include possible attacks in the United States," it said in a statement on its website.

The alert expires January 11  2012, it said.

US authorities said earlier on Tuesday that they had broken up a plot by two men linked to Iran's security agencies to assassinate Saudi Ambassador Adel al-Jubeir. One was arrested last month while the other was believed to be in Iran.

Iran denied the charges and expressed outrage at the accusations.

But President Barack Obama called the plot a "flagrant violation of US and international law" and Saudi Arabia said it was "despicable".

The United States said Tehran must be held to account and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, in a Reuters interview, expressed hope that countries that have hesitated to enforce existing sanctions on Iran would now "go the extra mile".

At a news conference, FBI Director Robert Mueller said the convoluted plot, involving monitored international calls, Mexican drug money and an attempt to blow up the ambassador in a Washington restaurant, could have been straight from a Hollywood movie.

What more can you expect from that disgusting regime in Iran. I hope the Iranian people rise up and through those animals into a pit where they belong.

      Met - 2011-10-12 08:26

Iran is a terrorist state, headed by a terrorist, Mohammedinajad. There is strong evidence that he, personally, was involved in the kidnapping of the American diplomats back in the 70s when he was still a student. They believe that if they cause chaos in the world, their(shi ites) Magdi( Messiah/imitation of Jesus) will return. Fact is that there was more justification for invading Iran than Irak( Iran did have weapons of mass destruction, but were taken to Syria just before the US invasion)Iran certainly holds an international threat, because of their suicidal tendencies. It has been reported that the Iranian actress,Marzieh Vafamehr, was sentenced to 90(ninety) lashes with a whip, for acting. This is a clear reflection of the barbaric nature of the regime, one of the worst amongst all the islamic dictatorships.

      J Burnstein - 2011-10-12 08:38

PangeaUltra and Met... You two are dumb and dumber...LOL The mass media have accomplished exactly what they wanted with you too...hahahaha

      Libertador - 2011-10-12 08:54

@Met Somehow it has not come across to you that it is not Iran but Israel that routinely slaughters civilians in Lebanon, Gaza, and the West Bank, and that it is not Iran but the U.S. and its NATO mercenaries who slaughter civilians in Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, and Pakistan.

      Matt :-) - 2011-10-12 09:31

@ Met - don't forget the recent execution order of a man simply because he's Christian and refuses to recant - execution was upheld last week

      Ryan - 2011-10-12 09:39

      @ J Burnstein ... prove it

      daaivark - 2011-10-12 14:59

Libertador: You forget that trying to reason with Met and Matt..... (and now, lower down, people like "moderfontein", shame, whop doesn't even know that "modder" has 2 "r"s) is worse than trying to sell ice in antarctica.

      Stephan Janse van Vuuren - 2011-10-12 15:06

      "modder" has 2 "r"s Really?

  • Bush Lair - 2011-10-12 08:16

@PangeaUltra, why are you so stupid and blind? This is just a US plot to discredit Iran. We are tired of this cheap US propaganda against a peaceful nation of Iran. US is just trying to start a war with Iran. Only gullible people takes US claims seriously. US time is over. They must focus on fixing their ailing economy and stop this war mongering attitude.

      Gavin Mannion - 2011-10-12 08:18

Yeah lets ignore proof and facts and completely back Iran because... ... ... because it's not America! That makes sense :)

      Met - 2011-10-12 08:37

Bush Lair- Of all the things you have lost, I am sure, what you miss most, is your mind.I gather that you are simply a troll, out stirring a bit. Its impossible for a person to be naturally that stupid, misled, ignorant and misled.

      Dane - 2011-10-12 09:05

WHAT? You call it the "peaceful nation of Iran"? Just a few years ago Mohammedinajad said, very publically, that as soon as he acquires nuclear weapons he is dropping the first one on Israel, and the second on the US? Very "peaceful nation" that..

      Onnest - 2011-10-12 09:11

@Met, you are the perfect example of the fruitful outcome of the propaganda machine. The things you accuse Iran of are the things Israel is guilty of. Weapons of mass destruction, killing of innocent civilians, conspiring to destabilize the region, arrogance...these are all things ISRAEL is guilty of. But in your thick brain washed mind you do not see this. Exactly what has Iran done (physically) for which they should be punished? Is it because they seek nuclear power? Well whether it be for electricity or weapons does not really matter, as the mad state of Israel already has these weapons. So why may one have and another not. How many people have Israel killed versus the number Iran has? When did Iran last bomb a country to the ground? Israel does it frequently...wake up!

      Liberty - 2011-10-12 09:11

      Lokl!!

      Libertador - 2011-10-12 09:23

@Dane Did you actually see this speech or did you hear it from the talking heads at BBC or CNN and you have swallowed it like strawberry and cream. There is not a single evidence of any speech by the Iranian president wishing for the destruction of Israel other than what was deliberately misqouted for simpletons like you so that you can serve your leaders by hating Iran.

      Met - 2011-10-12 09:30

I see that the islamic fraternity and their misled bedfellows have re-appeared. What about a comment on the 90 lashes sentence for an Iranian actress by the barbaric, islamic dictatorship. Was that ito sharia law, the quran or just impulse by the dictatorial "judges"

      Ryan - 2011-10-12 09:45

@ Bush Lair ... I would hardly call Iran peaceful and tolerant. I think most would agree that compared to western governments they are pretty extremist. secondly, tell me what the US would get out of starting a war with Iran ??? thirdly, its possible that this is all just US propaganda, but you need to also consider the possibility that its not. which is likely.

      Ryan - 2011-10-12 09:49

@ Dane ... its just media lies and US propaganda according to the Libertador, Bush Lair, J Burnstein types ...

      Libertador - 2011-10-12 09:57

@Ryan What will US get? Arms sales to the new US imposed Iran government. Iran sits on the second largest gas reserves in the world after Russia. Further, we can readily extrapolate from the above the real reasons for the "Slow Motion & Covert War" being pursued against Iran by The Empire. As such, please consider that in Feb. '08, Iran opened a Hydo-Carbon Bourse on Kish Island - trading in a basket of currencies, including Euros, Roubles, Yuan & Iranian Rial BUT NOT in Dollar$ and thereby challenging Reserve Currency, Dollar Hegemony & the Monopoly of the 3 existing Oil & Petroleum Bourses located in New York, Atlanta & London. Iran also has plans to create a "Sharia Compliant" Oil Futures Contract Market. Iran as was Libya is also not part of the Bank of International Settlements (BIS), which halves the banking cost of this country as this cleverly by-passes the banking cartels located in London and New York.

      Met - 2011-10-12 10:08

Kooy! My question about the 90 lashes for an Iranian actress is being avoided /ignored. Does the sandals and robes brigade and their bedfellows agree? And yes what about the Christian pastor who was sentenced to death for being a Christian. And the Saudi woman who received 10 lashes for driving!I ask again: Is this according to the quran, sharia law or the misled "judges"

      Ryan - 2011-10-12 10:10

@ Libertador ... Ive literally heard Ahmadinejad say some whack stuff. like saying the holocaust is a myth. and like you, we should not believe it happened because we didnt see it or hear it for ourselves ??

      Ryan - 2011-10-12 10:21

@ Libertador ... if the US was looking for an "excuse" to go to war with Iran dont you think the US would come up with something better than Iran trying to assassinate the Saudi Ambassador ??? look, Im sure you can agree that things in Iran are extremist. whether its how women are not equal, to violently squashing peaceful protests and murdering hundreds and thousands (remember Nada ??), to sentencing a priest to death for preaching Christianity, to Ahmadinejad saying the holocaust is a myth (which i heard him say for myself. so with an extremist, non-peaceful and intolerant country like that, it really wouldnt surprise me

Iran will destroy Israel in one week if they tried any military attack against Iran. Wake up you TOOL!!! You have been brainwashed by the media!!!

      Met - 2011-10-12 08:44

I fully agree- it will have to be done, sooner or later. The Israelis bought 500 "Bunker boys" from the US- suitable for the destruction of a nuclear bomb manufacturing plant

      Liberty - 2011-10-12 09:23

@met I don't know which clowns gave you a thumbs down if it's a fact. @J Burnstein I don't know what makes you arrive to that conclusion, the fact that Israel has nuclear capabilities far superiour to that of Iran, American military hardware, and a very competent military force, as those who tried to attack Israel before discovered. You can also guarantee that any major attack on Israel will draw US military support. I don't know what dream land you live in

      Met - 2011-10-12 09:24

Burnstein- Israel already had a practice run but flew in the direction of the Med but the same distance they would have flown to Iran, and they made sure that the regime in Iran knew exactly what they were doing.Iran, very quickly crawled into their sewers.I certainly have not been brain washed- I formally studied AND worked in this are/matter- for many years. I base my argument on fact not ideology.

  • theprodigy - 2011-10-12 08:39

which is the lesser of the 2 evils, I would say the US is, countries that have oil can either work with the world, or in Irans case work against it. The sooner we find a viable alternative to oil the better, 95% of Irans GDP is from oil, they produce nothing & contribute nothing to the world, except radicalism, they oppress their own people, sometimes brutally. Take oil away & they are nothing, but think they can hold the world at random.

      Onnest - 2011-10-12 09:27

So does Saudi Arabia...but no one says anything about that now do they?

  • Ben - 2011-10-12 08:57

Is it me or does the US jump at war every time their economy is failing?

      Matt :-) - 2011-10-12 09:11

No, normally it's every time the president's ratings are low, or if they want to introduce something hectic that the know the citizens wouldn't otherwise accept

      Libertador - 2011-10-12 09:37

The US needs to be waging war continuously. Its war machine demands it, the war profiteers impose it; it is the only major industry it has not farmed out. It is completely abhorrent, disgusting and immoral that the lives of Muslims are seen to be so indispensable that they are used to win elections. Israel did this in Gaza in 2008 (and it didn't work ultimately), and Sarkozy has just done it now in Libya.

  • Libertador - 2011-10-12 08:58

The tyrants who rule Saudi Arabia fear Iran because the Iranian government represents the interests of Muslims, and the Saudi governments represent the interests of the Americans. Think what it must feel like to be a tyrant suppressing the aspirations of your own people in order to serve the hegemony of a foreign country, while a nearby Muslim government strives to protect its people’s independence from foreign hegemony.

      Met - 2011-10-12 09:16

"Liberator"- your mind clearly needs liberating, or are you employed at the Iranian embassy? You are defending a terrorist barbaric and murderous state which is indefensible. You probably defend the corrupt thieves in the ANC regime as well?

      Libertador - 2011-10-12 09:25

Since the Second World War, those bastions of Democracy, the U.S. and Britain, have bombed, invaded and destroyed dozens of countries and killed millions of civilians, yet heyt are supposedly the 'good' guys and the people they have so wantonly slaughtered are the 'evil' ones. Iran has not invaded any of its neighbors, but the Americans are invading countries halfway around the globe.

      Bontage - 2011-10-12 09:39

Not too mention the half a dozen or so countries where the CIA and other American agencies assisted with "regime change". In fact, in the light of these, a plot to kill an ambassador is small change.

      Met - 2011-10-12 10:01

The ones killed by the US and Britain, pails into nothing when compared to the more than 100 million killed by the regimes you admire so much, China and the Soviet communist regimes

      Cire - 2011-10-12 10:02

@Libertador. How appropriate that you use that vicious thug Guevara as your image - suits your bizarre off-the-wall opinions! Do you really believe the mindless trash you spout?

      Libertador - 2011-10-12 10:21

To be exact, since the end of WWII, the US has: 1. Attempted to overthrow more than 50 governments, most of which were democratically elected 2. Attempted to supress a populist or nationalist movement in 20 countries. 3. Grossly interfered in democratic elections in at least 30 countries. 4. Drobbed bombs on the people of more than 30 countries. 5. Attempted to assasinate more than 50 foreign leaders. I am tempted to list the countries concerned but will allow you to educate yourself.

      Liberty - 2011-10-12 10:40

Saudi government, as well as the Iranian government opresses the people through Sharia law. A court ordered a woman to be beaten for driving a car, as women are prohibited from driving a car, or even leaving their homes without a male escourt. Women are prohibited from educating themselves and even having a job in most instences. So who's the liberators and whose the opressors?

      Ryan - 2011-10-12 11:42

but the Iranian government suppress their people .. oh wait, its because of US hegemony right

Iran has approx 65 million people and the Zionist and necons who dreamt up this latest pack of lies in their Satans hell in the Pentagon expect people to beleive that a advanced state like Iran would have to employ a bunch of bloodthirsty drug barons to carry out such a plot. This latest dirty trick dreamt up by the Zionist who now control every aspect of Christian America , will go to any lenghts to start a conflict with Iran , firstly to steal its vast oil reserves and secondly to install a more freindly Israehell regime. Even a five year old child can see the latest CIA/MOSSAD plot is nothing but a fairytale. What next ?, many suspect that the Zionist are planning a major atrocity , which they plan to blame on Iran to start what will be a major conflict with millons of deaths , mostly of Muslims . The educated world is slowly awakening to the dangers of International Zionist who nowhave their bloodthirsty hands on the levers of power and influnce in most Christian nations . Its time for Christians worldwide to awake and deal with the stealth of the Zionist who have wrested control over every vital aspect of their lives, from their Goverment, media,Banks, arms industry, industry etc. Christans the world over must demand that their must be no more Zionist inspired wars , that are fought for the benfit of International Zionist Gangsters bankers , arms traders etc, in which only Christians and Muslimsfight and die in.

Israehell and Zionist America are on their knees , their economy in freefall , mass protest in both countries which never ever get any coverage on Zionist controlled western media. Now they plan more massive blood shed in another Muslim country. Why?. Their is never one single reason when Zionist America and their bloodthirsty NATO criminals wage war. No war has ever been fought for human rights, real peoples democracy, etc. Zionist inspired wars are always about resources , selling arms to make profit for Western Zionist owned arms dealers and Bankers, regime change , and control over other countries resources and goverments. Now with the internet and the Zionist liars and propagandist who control the western medias have no longer control over the news we were once fed without question. The educated and non brainwashed no longer beleive the lies and propaganda spewed out by the Zionist controlled BBC, SKY NEWS . FOX NEWS , CNN and the rest of the 95% of major western media now in the hands of Zionist criminals and gangsters.
