US 'kept promise' on bin Laden

2011-05-02 07:40

New York - New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg says Americans have kept their promise after September 11 2001, to capture or kill Osama bin Laden.

US President Barack Obama announced on Sunday night bin Laden was killed in an operation led by the US.

Bloomberg said the killing of the terrorist leader does not lessen the suffering Americans experienced at his hands the day the World Trade Centre was destroyed but is a "critically important victory" for the nation.

He said it's a tribute to the men and women in the armed forces who've fought so hard.

The 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks is just months away.

Bloomberg said in a statement he hopes news of bin Laden's demise will "bring some closure and comfort to all those who lost loved ones" that day.

      Irené - 2011-05-02 11:43

Snotty- the overall consensus- excl US govt is that Binladen did not mastermind the bloody 9/11 attacks, so what type of closure do the victims families have now? You are just gullible enough to eat up everything the US writes or says. Pitiful really. Havent the US proved over the last 10yrs that they are no better than the terrorists. They killed innocent civilans in several air strikes, did they ever apologiese for all the innocent chidlren and women they killed?

      Proudly SA - 2011-05-02 13:00

@Irene.... When you wake up and smell the coffee, it would be a good day for all the sane people you insult with your mindless babble. If it wasnt for the brave men and women of the US armed forces defending people like you, you wouldn't be able to write the comments you so freely do.

      Ingwe - 2011-05-02 20:06

Well said proudly SA, Irene you really are a sad individual

I dont think this is a feather in the cap for the USA... FBI, CIA et. It took them 20 years to find this terr. Very questionable. The SAPS would have done it in a shorter period! Show the body, and I will beleive this American propoganda.

      Moondog1 - 2011-05-02 10:29

The SAPS? You must be joking?????
