Washington - Most Americans do not believe the United States is safer now from terrorism than before the September 11 2001 terror attacks, a CNN television poll found.
The survey, released on Wednesday, said 32% of Americans believed the country was about as safe as it was then, and 25% believed it was less safe.
Forty-three percent in turn said they believed the country was safer.
The telephone poll was carried out by Opinion Research Corporation from August 18-20 and questioned 1 033 adults.
Most people surveyed - 54% - said they believed it was very likely or somewhat likely an act of terror would take place in the US in the next several weeks.
And most of those polled - 55% - said they believed the federal government was not prepared for another terror strike on any US city or town.
