Kuala Lumpur - Malaysian police are investigating the death of a US pastor found at his home with his hands and legs bound and a cellphone charger cable around his neck.

Amiruddin Jamaluddin, a Kuala Lumpur district police chief, says officials believe Reverend David Ginter was murdered but have not identified any suspects or motive.

Ginter's wife, who was visiting her home country of Australia, asked a neighbour to check on him on Saturday when she couldn't contact him. He was found dead and his car was missing.

The website of Ginter's Bridge International Church says he is from a farm outside Portland, Oregon. He came to Malaysia in 2010.

US Embassy official Harvey Sernovitz said on Sunday the embassy was providing consular assistance to the family.
