US prepares for security risks with torture report

Washington - The White House says US embassies are preparing for a greater security risk with the release of a long-anticipated report on the CIA's harsh interrogation techniques. That release is planned for Tuesday.

White House spokesperson Josh Earnest says the administration strongly supports the release of the report from the Senate Intelligence Committee. He told reporters on Monday that the administration has been planning for the release for months and is taking security precautions for possible attacks.

Last week Secretary of State John Kerry has asked the committee to "consider" the timing of the release.

The report is the first public accounting of the CIA's use of torture on al-Qaeda detainees held in secret facilities in Europe and Asia in the years after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
