Eloy - US police say two skydivers are dead after they collided during a jump over southern Arizona.

Eloy police Sergeant Brian Jerome says witnesses told authorities both skydivers had open parachutes when they collided about 60 to 90 metres above the ground on Tuesday afternoon. At that point, their canopies collapsed and they fell.

Jerome says one person was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was taken to Casa Grande Regional Medical Centre and was pronounced dead there.

A third skydiver was injured but police say that person was not involved and the injuries are not believed to be serious.

Police have not yet released any names.

The collision occurred at Skydive Arizona, a training facility that operates out of the Eloy Municipal Airport, about 100km south of Phoenix.
