US travel alert after bin Laden death

2011-05-02 07:26

Washington - The US State Department on Sunday issued a global travel alert to all US citizens following the death of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden saying there could be an outbreak of anti-American violence.

"The US Department of State alerts US citizens travelling and residing abroad to the enhanced potential for anti-American violence given recent counter-terrorism activity in Pakistan," it said in a statement.

"Given the uncertainty and volatility of the current situation, US citizens in areas where recent events could cause anti-American violence are strongly urged to limit their travel outside of their homes and hotels and avoid mass gatherings and demonstrations."

It added that the warning would remain in effect until August 1.

    What happens on August 2?

      hahahaha, good question

Well, according to some, the world will end on the 21 May - so it is irrelevant! (they had to get to him before the world ends!)

GinSA.., You need a bit more 'tonic' to mix dude... And take it easy on the Playstation. I can tell you what will happen on 2 Aug 2011: exactly what will happen on 1 Aug 2011... Not much worth reporting on the 'war' that was not reported on before. In war - ie the REAL kind (you have evidently never seen) - the last thing you do, is what you say.

Obama got Osama! That evil deluded bastard is dead. Now I want to see how many Muslims in this country get to join us in celebrating his demise. There were some in Cape Town who thought he was a hero!! The message is very clear: "Don't with us because no matter how long it takes, we will get you!" This brings closure for all the 9/11 victim's families and they have good reason to celebrate.

      Irené - 2011-05-02 09:02

Closure will come when all the secret of the US are revealed, why they did not act on the alerts, why did they protect bin ladens family. Its all just too convenient, and now the US are hailed as heros, suddenly justifying the wars andoccupation of the past 10 yrs.

Irené, I have noted a number of your previous posts, but have never responded, at least not directly. In the world that you and I share (today) your ONLY choice is what your brand of poison will be. In simple terms: whatever course of action you favour, it will in turn have some form of damaging consequences. Albeit, the perpetrators almost always deny such damaging consequences – eg, the current global financial crises is the consequence of the ‘Greenpeace’ generation’s (now occupying the upper echelons of decision making) obsession with celebrating mediocrity. They have even gone as far as blaming George Bush for the crisis. Yet it is as much the consequence of Reagan’s policies, as it was even more so a consequence of Clinton’s (ie the one with the open zipper) policies. Yet few realise (or are brave enough to admit it) that during the Bush era, aid to Africa reached all-time records. Bush was far more a “friend” of Africa than what Obama has ever been. You are guilty of exactly the same sin, as that which you are chastising – ie you want your own ‘order’ to reign supreme over all that you are opposed to... I understand that one of “man’s” greatest struggles is his/her internal struggle and that cognitive dissonance ranks (by far) as the key component... PS - a cursory observation/question: what was the operational code-word used by the USA forces in the infamous 1992 raid in Mogadishu..? Makes you think doesn’t it...

Good news but there is still lot to be done as this is the beginning now for really fighting and getting away with terrorism, remember Bin Laden is not only operator or leader he was having his intelligence also and assistants so those are now remnants that need to be removed in order to get totally away with Al Qaeda. Terrorism is an enemy of the whole world and every country so it should be up rooted totally look now what is happening in Pakistan and Afghanistan, there is no peace people can not be free because of that and as such the entire world also, so every one who is practising that must be dealt with heavily.
