Amman - The United States announced on Wednesday that it was contributing $55.3m to UNRWA, the UN's Palestinian refugee relief agency, bringing the total so far this year to $154.5m.
Liana Brooks-Rubin, chief of the US delegation to UNRWA's advisory commission, told a meeting in Amman that the "United States remains deeply concerned about the humanitarian conditions facing Palestinian refugees".
UNRWA chief Karen AbuZayd told journalists that the US contribution would help to reduce the agency's projected deficit for the year.
The organisation delivers health, education and relief services to 4.7 million Palestinian refugees in the region.
