US vows to hunt, kill new Qaeda chief

2011-06-16 22:15

Washington - The United States will seek to hunt down and kill new al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri just as it did his predecessor Osama bin Laden, the top US military officer said Thursday.

"There is not a surprise from my perspective that he's moved into that position," Admiral Mike Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told journalists after the Egyptian leader was named the new al-Qaeda chief.

"He and his organization are still threatening us, and as we did both seek to capture and kill - and succeed in killing - bin Laden, we certainly will do the same thing with Zawahri."

    lol @ USA

      Neo - 2011-06-17 11:13

Sad thing is that USA creates these bloodthirsty, idiotic fundamentalists. One example is killing innocent women and children by drone attacks that have alledgedly gone wrong...

      Boer - 2011-06-17 20:29

Laugh as much as you want you moron be carefull you might be next on the agenda. I said it before I ll say it again do not f#ck with the US they will get you. Go USA.

      slg - 2011-06-24 23:20

Neo, these bloodthirsty fanatics have been in the Middle East long before the US even came into existence. They're exercising their free will to terrorize the freer world, for their own antiquated agendas. You're strengthening them with your argument, which is limited in perspective.

  • mik - 2011-06-17 08:00

You bunch of idiots! Go look in the corner office on the 3rd floor of the CIA. He is sitting next to Jones. Or even better may be scheduled for breakfast with Bin Laden and the Obamas in the oval office. And so what 'if' he has moved in to that position. You silly assed americans pose a threat to yourselves. You and all your Zionist friends.

      Joy - 2011-06-17 09:07

I agree with you 100% - America, look within your own ranks - the CIA would be a good place to start.

      Citizen - 2011-06-17 11:11

My gosh but you guys are hopeless basket cases

      slg - 2011-06-24 23:35

Mik, regrettably the idiot is you. While not perfect, the CIA is a force for good in the world.

  • McDaNife - 2011-06-17 08:25

You are an idiot. This time you wont be so lucky

  • Liar.com - 2011-06-17 08:29

Ai ai his killing will take another 10years as he has been playing hide-and-seek with a master and learned how to pick the perfect hiding place not like Osama

  • Daemos1 - 2011-06-17 08:43

Great, now the US is allowed to go assassinate anyone they choose nxxn

      Citizen - 2011-06-17 11:14

Yeah they can and they will, but don't worry they only go for the scumbags.

      slg - 2011-06-24 23:22

What do you suggest they do? Wait until they get assassinated themselves? It's plain foolish what you're suggesting.

  • Joy - 2011-06-17 09:05

America always believes that it has THE RIGHT to invade other countries - stop sticking your nose in business that does not concern you - stay out of other countries, and rather focus on issues WITHIN YOUR OWN BORDERS. The US does NOT rule the world and never will !

      Citizen - 2011-06-17 11:18

The thing is that the terrorists who's out to destroy the US and their allies have their operations outside US borders,in places like Somalia, Afghanistan, Pakistan etc. What do you expect them to do? Just sit around and wait for the next 911 to happen?

      slg - 2011-06-24 23:24

Joy, regrettably you're incredibly I'll informed. Thankfully the US and NATO will save your ass while you give strength to the people who really pose a threat to you and the freer world.

  • Ben - 2011-06-17 09:19

Capture and kill?! wtf... US is retarded. Us will NEVER pull out of the middle east. Everybody fell for Obama's lies. In 20 years "No we cant leave yet cause a civilian stole one of our marines' packs of peanuts. This will not stand. Peanuts today, tomorrow Wall street. We have to stop them"

      Citizen - 2011-06-17 11:20

You wanna see a retard? Go look in the mirror

      slg - 2011-06-24 23:26

Last night Obama announced the withdrawal of US trips from Afghanistan. Shows how much you're in touch with what's really happening in the world.

  • realist22 - 2011-06-17 09:19

If they (israel's baby) don't create another target, then there will be no one to use as a scapegoat when planning self-inflicted attrocities for finacial/world domination. You can fool some people sometimes , but you can't fool all the people all of the time....

      slg - 2011-06-24 23:28

What the hell are you talking about? You're fooling yourself man.

  • Richard - 2011-06-17 09:32

What a series of j@ck@ass comments. Zawahri is a dispicable serial murder, responsible for the deaths of thousands of people, mostly Muslim. Zawahri is openly at war with the West and therefore makes himself a legitimate target.

      Citizen - 2011-06-17 11:22

Thank-you lord Jesus somebody finally talking sense

  • Jayxer - 2011-06-17 09:40

May we all learn now that it is not about the oil. It's about preventing terrorism and supporting basic human rights.

      Irené - 2011-06-17 11:17

ag shampies- you obviously cant tell fact from fantasy. The image the US wants portray and what they actually do are so far removed- the two cannot even be compared. THE US are the biggest terrorists of them all, and thanks to you they will maintain that position till they are so far in dept not even China can bail them out- oh wait that should be round about now- $32 000 000 000 000 in dept (did you count those zeros? thats trillion). Screw America and their self righteous hypocritical propaganda.

      Jayxer - 2011-06-17 13:44

So would you prefer it of bin laden and hussein were ruling the world? Would you prefer it if they were in the position of the US to rule the world. Would you prefer it if you were killed when you did not convert to islam? The US debt is 15 trillion and has reached it's legal limit. So instead of donating billions to poorer countries they will have to use some of that on their own debt. How much would hussein donate if he was in obama's shoes?

      Irené - 2011-06-17 14:08

@ jayxer- I was commenting on the fact that you think the US are in the Middle East for human rights, and that profit and big business has nothing to do- how naive can you be?? You are trying to compare apples with granades here- you cant use a "what if story" to justify the killing of thousands of civilians, spending 10trillion on a war that was manipulated from the start. I recommend you read up on Cheney (bush's second in command, or was he actually in charge??)and his business contracts in Iraq and the Middle east. You cannot say something like "It's about preventing terrorism and supporting basic human rights. " if there is not a single proof of your statement. Tell me, How has anything improved for the Iraqi's since Hussein was killed? I can use many other examples aswell, point is, you are living in a fantasy land where there is a clear good and bad guy- real life is not that simple. And you cannot justify one crime (US bombing and sanctioning and killing as they please), saying it will prevent another (say a terrorist attack)- that is counterproductive. Do you know how many INNOCENT people have died in the quest to find osama? Why may the US use drones and take out any targets they feel like without retribution, but when a 'terrorist' does the same, he is evil scum? Do you not see the contradiction here? How can you proclaim you are fighting for others freedom, if you are actually compromising their freedoms?

      Jayxer - 2011-06-17 16:11

Of course there will be civilian deaths in the war on terror but those are inevitable casualties of war. This is a minor cost of human life when compared to the multitude of atrocities committed by the likes of hussein and bin laden over the decades. Every cent procured from their oil reserves goes back in to rebuilding the nation (like Iraq and Afghanistan.) There may be some profit involved for the US but this is nothing compared to their real motive- to root out terrorism.

      Ingwe - 2011-06-17 16:42

Irene with due respect it seems you know very little about the process and the amount of intelligence that goes into each and every drone strike. The US have found a weapon that strikes fear into the hearts and minds of the Taliban and Al Qaeda. The fact that innocent people die in some of these strikes in very unfortunate but that does not distract from the fact that these strikes have been a massive success. Many of the innocent people that have died in the drone strikes have in fact been used by the Taliban or Al Qaeda as shields. The fact of the matter is the majority of the drone strikes take out exactly who they are designed to take out, Taliban and Al Qaeda foot soldiers right up to their leadership.

      slg - 2011-06-24 23:30

Irene, still believe Bin Laden wasn't killed last month? This is the level of delusion you're under, and you expect us to believe the rest of your drivel?

  • Bill - 2011-06-17 10:08

USA you suck! Who gives you the right to exterminate whoever you feel like!

      Boer - 2011-06-19 21:40

Bill. What is anybody going to do if and when the US decides to bomb your ass. Who gives them the right to exterminate whoever they want that is a stupid question. Lets see how you feel if a terrorost group bombs your land you live in and kill alot of people , possibly some of your family members. The US doesnt need to answer to you or anybody for that matter. You are a fool. I d be carefull if I were you to talk to much crap about the US.

      slg - 2011-06-24 23:30

      Your photo says it all

  • JustinD - 2011-06-17 11:17

Good, kill him and every other terrorist around, more fish food.

  • Citizen - 2011-06-17 12:03

    Go USA u guys rock!!!

      Irené - 2011-06-17 12:30

only someone with a concentration span and developed logic of a four yr old would say something like that given America's sordid past. If I were to say that I am going to track and kill George Bush for his crimes against humanity- the CIA would be at my doorstep for my arrest- yet it is fine for the US to say they are going to track and kill someone- without trial or conviction- how is that constitutional or democratic?? you sheeple are the ones enabling the US to go on with their reign of terror in the name of global control- stick to your day job please, you're embarrassing yourself.

      Ingwe - 2011-06-17 16:51

Hello Irene good to see you back on News24 making your strange comments. Please tell me do you still believe Bin Laden died 10 years as it seems that if that is the case it took Al Qaeda a long time to replace him. I think nearly everyone who knows anything regarding Al Qaeda accepts that Bin Laden was killed in the recent raid in Pakistan; that is everyone except you. So is it ok for al-Zawahri to say Muslims will destroy the US but it is not ok for the US to say they will hunt and kill al-Zawahri. It seems to me you are adopting your normal double standards and anti US hatred.

  • Sparkling - 2011-06-17 12:18

Admiral Mullen, Juju is the new Al-Qaeda leader and I have his address!!

  • John Paul - 2011-06-19 22:59

    And take as long?

      slg - 2011-06-24 23:32

No. The US and freer world are on the ascendency now. They're battle-hardened. AQ hardly stand a chance.
