Wild dogs suspected in woman's death

Providenciales — Authorities in the Turks and Caicos Islands say a pack of wild dogs apparently has killed a woman.

The British Caribbean territory's police force says an autopsy is pending, but reports indicate that the woman was attacked by feral dogs in the Whitby area of North Caicos. Authorities did not disclose the woman's identity.

Wednesday's statement says three other attacks by the pack have "caused significant injuries to persons in the same community".

Government officials have organised a trapping team. An armed police unit is scouring the area.

The government is urging people to stay off the beach in the northern town on North Caicos, a sparsely populated island with few beach resorts. It is also advising people to carry a stick and walk in groups.
