Berlin - German police said on Thursday they have arrested and charged a 28-year-old woman suspected of killing five of her own newborn babies.

The woman, from Husum in northern Germany, has already admitted to killing two of the infants in an earlier unsolved case, said police, who had found the babies' bodies in a paper-recycling plant and a car park in March 2006 and March 2007, respectively.

"She is also suspected of giving birth to three more children and subsequently killing them," police in nearby Flensburg said in a statement.

The woman, whose name was not released, already appeared before a judge on Wednesday, charged with five counts of manslaughter.
