Woman survives 4 days in forest

2012-03-18 08:43

Sydney - An Australian woman who spent four nights lost in a rain forest wearing only her bikini after getting lost en route to a rock-pool swim is lucky to be alive, police said on Sunday.

Queensland detectives were puzzled why the boyfriend who reported 24-year-old Emily O'Brien missing did not join in the search for her in the Gold Coast's Springbrook National Park.

The pair got separated on the way to the swim and he raised the alarm after he emerged from the forest.

Paramedic Darrin Hatchman said O'Brien survived on water from rivers and streams.

"She said she saw a couple of snakes," Hatchman said. "You know, just the typical sort of stuff you'd find in very, very dense rainforest."
