A coalition of more than 60 organisations affiliated to the Black Lives Matter movement is calling for policing and criminal justice reforms.

The Movement for Black Lives released its agenda. This comes before next week's second anniversary of the fatal police shooting of an unarmed black teenager in Ferguson, Missouri, that sparked a wave of protests nationwide.

The agenda outlines six demands and offers 40 recommendations on how to address them, including the retroactive decriminalisation and immediate release of all people convicted of drug offences, sex work related offences and youth offences.

The agenda also calls for the creation of a commission to study reparations for descendants of slaves.

Black Lives Matter started with a hashtag in 2012 and has since evolved into a political force.

This is the first time Black Lives Matter articulated its demands and faced pressure to do so.
