Washington - US President Barack Obama assured Americans on Wednesday that "every possible step" is being taken to keep the country safe as it heads into the Thanksgiving holiday.

With memories of the deadly terror attacks in Paris still fresh, the president urged vigilance, but said there was "no specific threat" to the US homeland.

"As we are going into Thanksgiving weekend, I want the American people to know that we are taking every possible step to keep our homeland safe," he said.
