New York - Former UN secretary general Boutros Boutros-Ghali of Egypt has died at the age of 93, the United Nations said on Tuesday.

Boutros-Ghali was the UN's sixth secretary general, serving a single term between 1992 and 1996.

Rafael Carreno, Venezuelan ambassador to the UN, announced his death to the UN Security Council without giving any details.
