A once-beaming dad-to-be has been left reeling after his wife and newborn daughter tragically died just hours apart from each other.

Craig Renton, from Newark in England, was excited to start a family with his beautiful wife, Heidi (31) – who seemed pretty healthy just five days prior while at her surprise baby shower.

But Craig's world was shattered on 4 August, upon returning home after Heidi had phoned him complaining of severe chest pains.

The panic-stricken Craig then rushed his pained wife to the hospital. But unfortunately she suffered a seizure and passed out in the passenger seat on the way to the hospital.

“I was horrified,” Craig told the Mirror. “I immediately pulled over onto the roadside. She woke briefly and I was so relieved.”

Craig, who’s an aircraft engineer, quickly pulled over his car, phoned an ambulance and Heidi was rushed to the hospital – where doctors tried their absolute best to resuscitate her.

About 10 minutes later, medics emerged from the resuscitation room with tears streaming down their faces – Craig immediately knew something wasn’t right.

“One sat with me and said something I'll never forget: ‘I'm sorry your wife has died,’” he says.

Doctors then came out with his newborn daughter and asked the devastated father: ‘Would you like to meet your baby girl?’

Surgeons explained to the new dad that seconds before Heidi had passed away, their daughter had been delivered by means of an emergency caesarean.

But things went from bad to worse for Craig when his newborn baby girl died just 15 hours after she was born.

Scans revealed that she was starved of oxygen when Heidi fell ill – and would only survive a few hours.

“For three hours, she was on a ventilator and then I made the decision to turn it off.”

“She died peacefully in my arms at 15 hours old. Although I only knew her for 15 hours I grew to love her so much,” says Craig.

He decided to name his beautiful daughter Isabella, as it was a name his wife absolutely adored.

“Heidi gave me 9 years of excitement and happiness, she was a gorgeous, funny, caring and feisty woman who knew exactly how to live life,” a devasted Craig wrote on his Facebook post dedicated to Heidi and Isabella.

Heidi’s death still remains unexplained, but Craig believes it was natural causes.

“During scans and appointments, she was fine. We saw her heartbeat, she was healthy. Heidi was over the moon,” he says

He now encourages people to treasure every moment spent with their loved ones.

“If this tragedy can teach us anything, maybe it’s that in life you should never take anything for granted,” he says.
