Islamabad - India's foreign minister will meet with Pakistani leaders as the rival nuclear-armed neighbours pursue a new initiative to reduce tensions.

Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj will meet Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and other officials on the sidelines of a regional conference.

"Various matters with focus on resumption of composite dialogue process between the two countries will be discussed during talks with the Indian minister," Pakistani foreign affairs adviser Sartaj Aziz said.

The visit follows a key security meeting of Indian and Pakistani national security advisers in Thailand on Sunday.

The advisers were assisted by diplomats and discussed security and terrorism, according to Pakistan's Foreign Ministry.

The Bangkok talks were held after prime ministers of both countries briefly met in Paris during the climate change conference and agreed to improve relations.

Security talks were cancelled twice during the past year, as a series of low-intensity border clashes claimed the lives of nearly 100 civilians and soldiers on both sides.

The two-day Heart of Asia conference will begin on Tuesday with foreign ministers of several countries expected to attend.
