Brussels - Between 2 000 and 2 500 people have gathered in the Brussels suburb of Molenbeek in memory of the victims of Friday's attacks in Paris, the police estimates according to Belga news agency.

Those attending the vigil have spelled out the name of Molenbeek in candles.

"Our community is a community of peace and light, and we say no to conflagration and stigmatism," says Malika Saissi on behalf of the community centre behind the event, while criticising the media for its negative portrayal of Molenbeek.

The Muslim-majority neighbourhood has been a key location for investigations into the Paris attacks and other extremist activities in Europe.
