Berlin - Police in Berlin have uncovered a cannabis plantation after a fire broke out in a flat in the German capital, a spokesperson said on Saturday.

A neighbour alerted the fire safety officers, who were able to extinguish the flames.

Afterwards, police confiscated 160 cannabis plants as well as dried marijuana and equipment for the upkeep of the plot.

No one was injured.

The tenant of the flat was not at home at the time and has since been arrested on charges of illegally cultivating narcotics and negligence after it emerged that botched electrics had caused the blaze.
