We all know The Notebook is the sentimental romance flick that made Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams stars and left millions of girls around the world reaching for the tissues. But here are 5 things you probably didn’t know about movie.

- Ryan Gosling lived as Noah for two months before filming started. To prepare for his role as Noah, Ryan spent two months living in Charleston, South Carolina, in the US, building furniture and rowing the Ashley River every morning. He even built the kitchen table featured in the movie.

- Britney Spears could have played Allie. A number of actors auditioned for the role that eventually went to Rachel McAdams. Britney Spears, Jessica Biel, Ashley Judd and Reese Witherspoon were all keen to star as the female lead but missed out.

- The movie was filmed backwards. The “After seven years” Allie and Noah scenes were filmed first, when Ryan had a thick beard. The cast and crew then went on holiday, allowing him to shave off his beard and lose some weight to look authentic as a younger Noah.

- Ryan had to wear contacts. His baby blues were covered up with brown contact lenses, so he could have brown eyes like James Garner, who plays the older Noah.

- Ryan and Rachel didn’t like each other in the beginning. “We inspired the worst in each other,” said Ryan. “It was a strange experience, making a love story and not getting along with your co-star in any way.” But a year after the film was made the two started dating and were together for two years before splitting up in 2007.
