Stuck for an idea for a gift for your kids’ teachers? Need a Secret Santa gift for an office party? Our blogger found these clever ideas on Pinterest.

These aren’t those wholesome homemade gifts you rustle up in your kitchen to impress the socks off the likes of me. I must confess that no matter how often I think this year is the one when I’ll bake lots of cookies or make jam or the like, the end-of-year deadline rush combined with the heat of summer always brings me to my senses.

But these gifts have the home-y feeling I’m after, without the hassle of toiling over a hot stove.

Message in a bottle

For the person who’s always on the go there’s energy in a jar. Fill a preserve jar with a selection of choccies and sweets plus one or two pods or sachets of coffee or cappuccino.

For a mellower person change the label to “Refreshment in a jar” and add a selection of herb teas instead of the coffee.

Decorations to preserve

Fill a jar with strings of beads, baubles, tinsel or Christmas lights for a lovely festive feel.

Love these! The one on the left has everything you need for a pedicure including a pumice stone, foot scrub, nail clippers and toe spreaders. The other has manicure goodies: nail colour, emery board, cotton balls, nail polish remover and hand cream.

Spice of life

These festively decorated jars are filled with aromatic spices and the lids have holes so the scent can waft through the room. You could also fill a jar with whole spices for a friend who likes making curry.

Candle power

I have a thing for candles – particularly plain white ones. So this jar of candles simply decorated with red and white butcher’s string really appeals as a hostess gift over the festive season.

Just add ice cream

Okay, so this isn’t a jar. But I love this idea for a gift for a family or friends who share a house. And you could easily put the cones, ice cream sprinkles and sauces in a nice big jar.

Put a lid on it

This is so cute – cupcake papers used between the covers and lids of jars. And if you’re one of those industrious people who does manage to make jam for gifts, you can label the contents on the papers.
