Former 5FM DJ Gareth Cliff posted a link to his new website Cliff Central, inviting fans to subscribe to the new site for first hand information on his new and exciting project.

The site also featured links to social media app WeChat's iOS and Android apps, suggesting his new project, which he refers to as "unradio", could be a form of internet radio.

WeChat, which is owned by the biggest growing Chinese internet company Tencent, provides multimedia communication, including text messaging and photo/video sharing.

While WeChat offers web chats, there isn't a working radio broadcast platform as yet. Which means the app developers may be creating a special platform that's a first of it's kind.

This could well be the new platform Gareth referred to when he left 5FM last week after 10 years at the station.

South African Marketing Director of WeChat, Brett Loubser says they are not at liberty to discuss anything until next week Monday and questions should be directed to Gareth and his management.

Gareth has been tight-lipped, and has instead opted to keep posting suggestive photos on his social media.

In an interview with YOU last week, Gareth mentioned the new project, describing it as mind-blowing.

"It's unlike anything you’ve seen before. It’s within the media landscape and we are creating a new medium - we’re very excited about it," he'd said.

All will be revealed on 1 May.
