There's no doubt he's the king of the jungle!

“He is no normal man.” Nope, he's certainly not! Alexander Skarsgård is super-buff as Edgar Rice Burroughs’ jungle hero in the new trailer for upcoming film The Legend of Tarzan. The six-foot Swede stars alongside The Wolf of Wall Street's Margot Robbie as Jane in the remake of the classic story.

'It's more of a leaner, longer, more vertical modern man than the square-jawed stereotype we're used to'

To get in shape for the gruelling role, Alexander spent four months training before shooting even began. "I basically didn't see my family or my friends," he said, adding that playing Tarzan "was definitely worth getting up at 4:30 in the morning."

In The Legend of Tarzan, due for release mid-next year, Tarzan has left his home in the Congo for gentrified life with his love, Jane. Ten years later, he's invited back to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a sinister plot by Belgian, Captain Leon Rom.

"It's almost the opposite of the classic tale, where it's about taming the beast," Alexander said. "This is about a man who's holding back and slowly as you peel off the layers, he reverts back to a more animalistic state and lets that side of his personality out."

Director David Yates, who helmed the final Harry Potter films told USA Today that Alexander's lean and mean physique made him perfect for the role. "Tarzan needs muscles, but it's more of a leaner, longer, more vertical modern man than the square-jawed stereotype we're used to."
