In true Hollywood fashion celebrities were welcomed to a glitz-and-glam event complete with red carpet, flashing cameras and flowing bubbly.

The revamped seventh annual YOU Spectacular Awards took place at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg on Saturday 16 July after YOU readers voted over several weeks for their favourite stars in the various categories.

The star of the night and SA’s darling of TV was Jeannie D from Top Billing, who won all three categories in which she was nominated:  Favourite TV Presenter, Most Popular Female Celeb and Sexiest Female.  Her co-presenter Janez Vermeiren took home SA’s Sexiest Man title again.

“This is unbelievable! I’m completely overwhelmed and happy! A huge thank you to all the fans who voted, and voted, and voted again. Thank you so much” exclaims Jeannie D.

Another favourite among YOU readers was the evening’s host, Gareth Cliff(who co-hosted with Bonang Matheba) – he walked away with two gongs: Most Popular Male Celeb and Favourite Radio Personality for his 5fm breakfast Show. “What a really slick evening, everyone enjoys it, and that is why they keep coming back” says Cliff.

Vivacious vixen Michelle Botes from Isidingo went home with the Favourite Actress award while co-star Robert Whitehead, best known for his role as the infamous Barker Haines, proved that infamy is as much loved as fame when he won Favourite Actor.

The Venus and Adonis of the night were newlyweds Lee-Ann Liebenberg and Nicky Van Der Walt with the public voting them their Favourite Couple.

The Parlotones snatched first place in the Favourite Music Star category; while on the newbie front hunk Ashish Gangapersad, who plays Prada in Isidingo, was crowned Favourite Newcomer.

The talented Siphiwe Tshabalala dribbled his way into the hearts of the South African public when he became the first goal-scorer of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and subsequently the YOU Spectacular’s Favourite Sport Star.

Hugely popular TV show 7de Laan took home the highly coveted Favourite Soapie award.

Guest performers included The Graham Watkins Project, girl band Jamali as well as SA’s hit rock band Prime Circle.

A new addition to the evening this year was the much anticipated after-party, which was hosted on the stage by DJ Koula and DJ Dino Bravo and had guests on the dance floor until the wee hours.

‘’We’re really thrilled that so many celebrities attended this year,” YOU editor Linda Pietersen says. “This event is a highlight on the YOU calendar thanks to our readers and the fantastic celebrities who entertain us weekly. ‘’
