Almost 300 rescued from Boko Haram

The Nigerian military announced that they’ve rescued almost 300 women and girls from terrorist organisation Boko Haram.

The army said via Twitter that they rescued 200 girls and 93 abducted women from the Sambisa Forest, an area in the northeast of the country suspected of being a refuge for Boko Haram.

Many had hoped that the Chibok schoolgirls, whose abduction last year led to the worldwide Bring Back Our Girls campaign, would be amongst those rescued, but an army spokesperson told Reuters that this isn’t the case.

The whereabouts of the kidnapped schoolgirls remain unknown.
