WHEN exactly did Martin (54), Teresa (55) and Rudi (22) van Breda die after they’d been savagely attacked with an axe?

When exactly did Martin (54), Teresa (55) and Rudi (22) van Breda die after they’d been savagely attacked with an axe?

When the triple murders of members of the apparently model Van Breda family sent shockwaves through the country and further afield last Tuesday, it was assumed that they’d met their end in the early hours of Tuesday 27 January.

Police arrived on the scene around 8 am on Tuesday after middle child Henri (20) had summoned the emergency services. However, in the funeral leaflet distributed at the deceased family members’ memorial service in the Morelatapark Dutch Reformed Church in Pretoria yesterday morning their death date is given as 26 January.

'Tests to determine when they died have been done'

Does that mean they’d died before midnight on the Monday evening, several hours before police arrived on the scene?

Upon enquiry, police spokesman Lt-Col André Traut declined to reveal the death date to YOU.

“I can’t reveal that to you,” he said, adding, “Tests to determine when they died have been done, but I don’t know if the family have been informed of the results.”

Henri is the only member of the Van Breda family who escaped virtually unharmed in the horrific axe attack. His younger sister, Marli (16), is fighting for her life in the Vergelegen Medi Clinic in Somerset West and is believed to be under strict police guard; not even family or friends are allowed access to her.
