Baby steps! Start small for successful weight loss

Changing your diet is a big deal, especially when you have a busy work schedule followed by a hardcore gym session.

You want to make sure you’re getting everything you need and not missing out on any vital nutrients as you work towards getting healthier. It may seem daunting, but there are ways to make the switch easier. It’s best to start with small moves, such as drinking hot water with lemon every morning. This is known to boost your metabolism throughout the day and will leave you feeling fuller quicker after eating. Little alterations like this will eventually help you get into the swing of things and as time goes on you could add another small touch, such as taking a vitamin C tablet with breakfast. Next up is making the process of eating different things simpler, so instead of cutting produce out completely why not add new foods into your diet instead? For example rather than cutting out that chocolate fudge bar, try buying dark chocolate instead and making two squares of that your extravagance throughout the week. Then when the weekends come don’t hesitate to treat yourself; after all, it’s previously been proven that those who do indulge every now and then are more likely to lose weight than those who don't.

When you do get to the dreaded task of a weekly food shop it’s fairly easy to avoid temptation. You’ll soon discover the healthiest and freshest produce is often kept around the perimeter of the shop and while there may be some exceptions, try to avoid wandering down any unnecessary aisles and stick to your list. This is also important as it means you won’t be browsing aimlessly and buying according to your mood - especially as our willpower always takes a nosedive when we're hungry.

Another minor change you can make is upping your water intakee. Swap that glass of juice for a pint of water and watch as your skin gets clearer, you feel more hydrated and less hungry. Many of us mistake thirst for hunger, which results in us snacking more, so this should solve the problem.

Most importantly, healthy food can be delicious. Find some well-trusted recipes to follow when cooking your meals and mix things up a bit; spices and herbs always add a kick to food. This may be the perfect excuse to try new things and by bulk-cooking you can store a tasty dinner away for later in the week, saving you one less thing to do after a hectic day at work.
