The body of a baby girl was discovered wrapped in a plastic bag and dumped at a rubbish corner in Bloemfontein CBD on Tuesday evening.

“The gruesome discovery was made at around 17:30 by a passerby when he tried to empty the plastic bag that was in the rubbish corner near the railway line next to the taxi rank,” said Captain Chaka Marope, spokesperson for the Parkweg Police Station.

Police officers who were in the vicinity were alerted.

“The little body was found with burn wounds in the face and on the right hand. The baby was wearing a pink baby gown and estimated to be two to three weeks old.”

A post-mortem will be conducted to establish and determine the actual cause of death.

Marope made an appeal to anyone with information about the incident to approach the Parkweg Police Station on 051 507 6000.

No arrests have been made.
