Baked meatballs with tomato sauce

Serves 4   8 ready-made, store-bought hamburgers salt and freshly ground black pepper olive oil

TOMATO SAUCE 30 ml olive oil 20 ml butter 3 leeks, chopped 2 garlic cloves, chopped 1 can (410 g) chopped tomatoes 30 ml chutney 10 ml Worcester sauce salt and freshly ground black pepper handful fresh basil

Preheat the oven to 200 °C.

Shape the hamburgers into balls and arrange them in a greased ovenproof dish.

Season the meatballs with salt and pepper, drizzle with olive oil and bake for 10-15 minutes or until done.

Meanwhile heat the olive oil and butter in a saucepan and fry the leeks and garlic until fragrant.

Add the tomatoes, chutney and Worcester sauce and season with salt and pepper.

Simmer the sauce for a few minutes.

If the sauce becomes dry add a little chicken stock or boiling water.

Add the cooked meatballs to the sauce and simmer for a few minutes.

Scatter the fresh basil on top and serve with spaghetti or toast.
