Beat the heat with yummy ice lollies

Holiday activity of the day: Rope in the kids to help make these delicious and oh so refreshing lollies.

Ice lollies for summer

Each flavour makes 6 lollies

Granadilla lollies

2 granadilla-flavour Yogi Sips

Cream soda lollies

750 ml (3 c) Cream Soda

Berry lollies

2 bought berry smoothies

Pomegranate lollies 750 ml (3 c) pomegranate juice 1 Pour the Yogi Sip/cool drink/smoothies/juice into the ice lolly moulds, put the lids on and freeze for 3-4 hours. 2 Dip the moulds into hot water for a few seconds, turn out the lollies and serve. TIPS

  • Combine two flavours in one lolly. First half fill the mould with one flavour, freeze it then top up with another flavour and freeze.
  • Make a berry smoothie: Blend together 150 g strawberries, 125 ml (½ c) frozen or fresh raspberries, 160 ml (¼ c) vanilla ­yoghurt and 15 ml (1 T) maple syrup.
  • You could also freeze a fruit juice, apart from pineapple which doesn’t freeze well, to make a plain ice lolly. Freeze ­various juices a layer at a time to make a colourful ice lolly.
  • Make ice tea lollies.
  • Make diet versions by mixing diet cool drinks.
  • For parents, make the grown-up ­version by adding alcohol, such as Pimm’s orsparkling wine, to any of the other lolly combinations.
