Ben Affleck has opened up about his parenting style.

Ben Affleck has opened up about his parenting style. The 42-year-old actor has three children with wife Jennifer Garner. And Batman star Ben says that while it can be difficult to watch his kids make mistakes, he has learned to let them find their own way.

'You just try to instill confidence in your children and make them feel good about themselves'

“You just try to instill confidence in your children and make them feel good about themselves because they’re going to encounter as we all do negativity and negative feedback,” Ben told USA Today. “Instead of making it where you go, ‘Everyone wants to be your friends,’ you have to go, ‘How do you deal with this situation?’ There’s a lot to be said for letting them make these discoveries on their own even though it can be painful.”

Ben also spoke about the differences he has observed between his son and daughters. Ben and Jennifer first welcomed Violet in 2005, before adding to their family with daughter Seraphina in 2009 and completing their brood with son Samuel in 2012.

And Ben said that raising his three children has allowed him to see the difference in how boys and girls develop.

“Boys, as we now know, are much slower than girls. Boys just take a while. We’re not as smart as women for many, many years. I don’t know if we ever catch up. We catch up in some ways but probably not in all of them,” Ben added.

Ben is currently starring in the highly-anticipated Gone Girl, the film adaptation of the bestselling book of the same name. The storyline sees the actor married to Rosamund Pike's Amy, with both characters full of complexities.
