Is there discord in Queen B and Jay Z's kingdom? Viewers of Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards would never believe it. The king and queen of hip-hop and their little princess Blue Ivy were every inch the happy family on stage.

But more sceptical viewers of the picture perfect scene are crying foul. Were the kisses, cuddles and happy tears all part of an elaborate PR stunt?

Yes it was, body language expert Susan Constantine told the New York Post. “I see a lot of hurt and pain here,” she said of the family's stint on stage at the VMAs, where Jay presented his wife with the Video Vanguard Award after her 15-minute performance.

The couple are currently in the thick of their joint On The Run Tour, but they can't seem to shake rumours that their marriage is on the rocks. Insiders say Beyoncé hoped to silence the rumours swirling around their relationship with the VMA spectacle.

But communication specialist Dr Lillian Glass  told Hollywood Life the couple have “no joy reflected to each other” and their kiss seemed contrived. “She is holding on to the baby, and also she is pulling away from him, her head looks stiff, her body looks stiff. It’s too contrived, and I think everyone can see that,” she explains.

"They’re just trying to save face," says Constantine.  "They feel no emotions toward each other.

"Jay Z and Beyoncé are completely distant, and their minds are on something else. Beyoncé feels really uncomfortable,” she adds, pointing out Bey's tight smile doesn't quite reach her eyes.

Even 2-year-old Blue's expressions and actions are telling of trouble in paradise. “I see this sense of sadness. It’s almost like Beyoncé is looking at her going, ‘It’s OK,’ ” Constantine says. “And the baby is saying, ‘This doesn’t seem right.’ Children are very perceptive.”

Blue Ivy's hands were clasped as though she were about to pray, with her arms tucked into her chest as if to make herself appear smaller. “Maybe she’s praying her parents get back together,” Constantine says.
