He desperately wanted to look like his idol, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, but in the process 19-year-old Andrej Gajdos exercised himself to death.

The young bodybuilder, from Slovakia, was in the parking area of a supermarket in Weston-super-Mare in England when he collapsed and couldn’t be resuscitated.

An autopsy revealed that Andrej died almost immediately after his thoracic aorta ruptured. Traces of steroids and testosterone were found in his blood.

Andrej apparently exercised twice a day and had transformed himself into a 2m tall muscle-bound hulk, weighing roughly 127kg at the time of his death.

'Steroids would have enlarged his heart'

The doctor who had performed the autopsy explained that in the process of Andrej’s transformation his organs had swollen to an irregular size.

Dr . John Oxley added that while it is very unusual for a young man to suffer Andrej’s fate, his organs were entirely out of proportion at the time of his death.

Andrej’s heart weighed 680g, 50% more than an average person whose heart weighs around 400-500g.

"Steroids would have enlarged his heart,” explained Dr John Oxley, “...and having a big heart predisposes thoracic rupture."

However, another doctor, Peter Harrowing, disagreed with Dr John Oxley and said that Andrej’s death could have occurred as a result of a genetic defect and may have had nothing to do with his use of bodybuilding steroids.

“Andrej was a very keen bodybuilder with aspirations to become the new Rock,” explained a friend of his, “he will never reach that height now.”
